Uncertainty: Undesired gift for all?
Posted on 25 April, 2021 in Self Development
I recently did a quick survey to have a topic for my blog post. Not to my surprise, the topic of Uncertainty was the winner, I am assuming because of the current pandemic everybody’s planning mainly has taken a toss which made people choose this option.
So I am going to write about what you do when you do not know what’s next? Very common advice would be to stay positive or stay confident but the question comes- how can you drive fast when there’s dense fog? Being confident can prove to be risky when you do not know what’s next . So what to do?
When you are faced with uncertainties take a pause, evaluate & then move ahead with your next steps. That is why I say that uncertainty is a gift – it beckons you to think out of the box, helps you open our mind, let you know your limits and improves you.
Let’s take a step back: We must try to learn to balance the desired and undesired turn of events. Why to enjoy only the good things which we want to happen in our lives and outcast the bad ones? I mean there’s an obvious answer who does not like all goodies in their lives and avoid bad ones as much as they can but it is time to think deeper. Life will be mundane if we do not have uncertainties, God exists because there’s a Devil. Everything is relative here, you love good moments and attach importance to them because there are bad ones and there are uncertainties.
Imagine your life as a thriller movie; will you ever say a thriller movie is good if everything in the story happens as per your expectations? No, without twists in the plot there’s no thrill. Similarly our lives, ups and downs makes it more amazing. When you wish for happiness and the best things in life, learn to embrace the unexpected, bad & uncertainties also. Enjoy the suspense, don’t try to be a match fixer!
Now when we know uncertainties are not as bad as we perceive, the point is how to stay pepped up even during uncertainties. Answer is hold on to your blessings. Even when there’s something bad and unfortunate going on there are definitely good things happening/happened in parallel so shift your attention there. Do not forget to count on the blessings that came throughout the day. Focusing just on uncertainties blows it out of proportion sometimes. Shifting attention to something better relaxes us.
You can try to break down your day in moments and respond to those moments in isolation. Avoid carrying over the emotion of one moment to another, don’t be sulky the whole day if one bad thing happened in a day but try and live all events equally.
Another way that I can suggest to sail through uncertainties is not to get nervous. Recently I heard a doctor suggesting in an interview that if you are dealing with something bad, something negative, try to maintain your calm and think that it will pass. Being anxious worsens the situation. I know it’s easier said than done but these tips can save you from unnecessary pain, tension & frustration during uncertainties. In the end we are responsible for our own happiness and we all should strive for it.
Keep smiling .
